Easy wins in security for schools and small businesses

Technical Track

What threats do school districts and small businesses face and how can they be prevented? Based on information gleaned from audits performed by UW—Whitewater on local K-12 schools, we’ll discuss the threats they face and recommend cost-effective and easy-to-implement actions that schools and small businesses can take to prevent security breaches.

• Common threats and areas of weakness between schools and businesses
• Tools and techniques to mitigate threats
• How to investigate their environments for vulnerabilities
• How to apply common fixes for vulnerabilities, for example deploying GPOs to disable legacy protocols
